Statement: Fabrication celebrates the topography of textile pattern imprinted upon daily life. The work is inspired by striped patterns used on a multitude of items from tablecloths and towels to button-down shirts for men and women. I enjoy the way that lines can render fabric’s mutable form, shifting at the folds of everyday life. This installation also stems from my long-term investigation of printmaking’s visual language, particularly the use of line hatching in prints dating back several hundred years. *** Marcavage's work will be included in the International Print Center New York's New Prints 2012/Autumn exhibition, selected by Judith Dobrynski (Freelance Writer), David W. Kiehl (Curator of Prints and Special Collections at the Whitney Museum of American Art), Raymond Foye (Writer, Publisher, Freelance Curator), Janice Oresman (IPCNY Trustee, Collector, Art Advisor), Erik Hougen (Artist, Master Printer at Lower East Side Printshop), and Kakyoung Lee (Artist). The show will run from Saturday, October 20 - Friday, November 17, 2012. The opening reception will be held on Tuesday, October 30, during Print Week from 6 to 8pm. *** The Zhiguan Gallery in the Hankou District in Wuhan, China recently held a solo exhibition of Marcavage's prints entitled Particles.
